Manufactured in 1863 at the height of the Civil War for martial use, bearing subsinspector markings throughout. Classic 8" round barrel with New York address, German silver blade front sight, and 6-shot .44 caliber rebated percussion cylinder rollmarked with naval engagement scene. Recoil shield cut for shoulder stock with matching steel backstrap. Smooth 1-piece walnut grip with script "JLD" and "JT" cartouches. Revolver is housed in a contemporary velvet-lined partitioned hardwood display case with accompanying later Dixon & Son Colt's Patent flask, original .36 caliber dual cavity Colt's Patent mold, and UMC cap tin. CONDITION: Very good. Metal exhibits an even dove gray patina. Trigger guard displays a mellow golden patina. Very strong visible roll mark. One frame screw appears to be a replacement. Grips are very fine, and appear lightly cleaned with a few impressions. Strong bore with black powder pitting. Mechanically fine. Matching numbers observed throughout. Accessories are fair to good, the flask has a dent on the reverse.
