Full stock Kentucky rifle made by Joseph Hillegas circa 1820 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. 40" octagon .50 caliber rifled barrel with silver blade front sight, notch rear sight, and barrel stamped "J. HILLEGAS". Gun has been converted back to flint with J. & W. Aston marked lock with single trigger control. Full length curly maple stock with brass hardware, including an engraved "Q" finial 4-piece patchbox with 7 piercings. Stock is decorated with missing silver shield wrist inlay and brass oval cheek inlay with copper center inlay. Stock has a brass comb piece and brass saddle plate, missing part of the point on one end. Comes with a hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Metal has turned a plum patina with areas of light pitting. Hardware has been cleaned and polished. Wood has been cleaned with areas of burnout around lock. Dark pitted bore with visible rifling with good mechanics.
