Full stock Kentucky rifle made by Christian Gumpf circa 1820 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. 43 - 1/4" octagonal .50 caliber rifled barrel with silver blade front sight, notch rear sight, and barrel stamped "C. GUMPF/LANCASTER, PA". Gun has been converted to percussion with a W.T. Howell & Co marked lock with double set trigger control. Full length curly maple stock with checkered wrist and brass hardware, including an engraved keyhole finial 4-piece patchbox. Stock is decorated with silver shield wrist inlay and brass oval cheek inlay. Comes with a hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Metal has turned a plum patina with areas of light pitting. Hardware has been cleaned and polished. Wood has had a coat of wax with areas of burnout around lock, a stable repaired saddle area crack at the wrist with checkering worn flat, and several slivers missing along forestock. Dark pitted bore with visible rifling with good mechanics.
