Between 1879 and 1887, Smith & Wesson produced just 977 Model 320 revolving rifles, 514 of which were fitted with 18" barrels. This high polish blued example features a round 18" barrel marked on the top rib with 2-line Smith & Wesson address and fit with globe front sight and flip up v-notch rear. An original tang-mounted aperture sight is also included. Standard round butt No. 3 style action with 6-shot fluted cylinder chambered for .320 S&W Rifle, case hardened hammer, and case hardened trigger guard. Iconic checkered mottled red and black hard rubber grips emblazoned with "S&W" monograms. Matching checkered and monogrammed hard rubber forend. Correct Circassian walnut stock with polish blued mount and checkered "S&W" monogrammed butt plate. Rifle is housed in a correct felt-lined partitioned case with brass corner protectors and a leather handle. CONDITION: Very fine. The majority of the original factory high polish blue is retained on the barrel and frame, with some areas drifting to brown patina. Areas of older oxidation present from storage, especially on the right side where rifle contacted the case liner. Cylinder has largely turned to brown patina. Hammer exhibits strong case colors, the trigger guard mostly fading to patina. Hard rubber components are especially fine, with minor handling marks and a small split at the base of the right grip. Stock has some minor impressions remaining near excellent overall. Very fine bright bore displaying crisp rifling. Mechanically fine. Case shows heavy wear and is missing its straps, but is otherwise intact and serviceable.
