Second model Winchester Model 1873 produced late 1881. 21" round barrel chambered in .38 Winchester Center Fire (.38-40 WCF) with standard rear sight and aftermarket Lyman front. 2-piece plain walnut stock and forearm complete with rifle forearm cap and rifle steel butt plate. Possible American Indian adornment of a row of medium brass tacks at base of stock that rings the entire butt plate. 7 missing tacks have left either a halo or studs remaining and show great age. CONDITION: Good overall, with scattered areas of dark brown with overall gray. Brass cartridge elevator is a pleasing light golden patina with ".38 CAL" marking still visible. Stock is good with numerous dents, dings, and handling marks, with a small 1/2" fracture line at right wrist that does not affect the integrity. Action works appropriately with strong full and half cock. Sliding dust cover is missing. Bore is primarily worn smooth but still has visible rifling.
