Kentucky halfstock trade-type rifle made by an unknown gunsmith circa 1840. Gun has 39 - 1/2" octagonal .62 caliber smoothbore barrel with blade front sight and notch rear sight. Gun has a Riddle-marked percussion lock with single trigger control. Curly maple stock with brass tack decoration of unknown age. Stock has no buttplate and simple iron trigger guard. Comes with a hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Metal has turned a plum patina with areas of light pitting. Wood has had a coat of wax with areas of burnout around lock, a stable wire repaired saddle area, and several slivers missing along the forestock, with usage dings and marks and a crack under lock. Dark pitted bore with nonfunctioning mechanics.
