A wonderful example of a presentation grade model 1860 cavalry saber. The blade is decorated for about half its length with patriotic and foliate motifs that flank the letters "US" on the obverse and a panoply of arms on the reverse. Spine is decorated with a foliate vine for about half its length and is stamped by signature Klingenthal cursive. Guard is equally ornate with laurel vines lush with berries that decorate each piece of the 3-band cavalry guard. Grip is wood, grooved, and wrapped with sharkskin and strands of twisted brass wire. Pommel features an amphora just beneath the cap adorned with more laurel leaves that surround a perched eagle on the cap. Scabbard features a nicely browned finish with small but ornate brass mounts. Drag is marked by Klingenthal. The blade exhibits a light gray patina with crisp motifs. Scatterd blemishes. Hilt is nice with guard exhibiting a light patina. Grip is intact with slight wear to the sharkskin and tight brass wire. Scabbard features scattered blemishes from wear and rubbing and a few dents toward the tip. CONDITION: Good.
