An example of a British Drill jacket repurposed for a member of the American Volunteer Group (AVG), more commonly known as the Flying Tigers. The jacket is the British, not Indian, pattern, with no bellows in the pockets. The jacket is made in an open "cellular" weave called Aertex that provides better ventilation than traditional weave fabrics. British nomenclature was Bush Shirt, possibly because it could worn with the tail tucked into shorts or trousers to wear as a shirt. The jacket retains its original specification label and is marked as a "Jacket, Khaki, Drill, O.A.", sized "8A", and broad arrow marked. The label is partially torn toward the bottom. Unmarked clutch-back AVG insignia on upper lapel with nice unmarked screw-back enamel Chinese Air Force roundel insignia on lower lapel. The left breast displays a pair of Chinese Air Force pilot wings, modified with 4 holes, 2 on each wing, and sewn to the jacket just above the pocket. The wings are numbered "181" on reverse. All plastic buttons present, with no other markings. A very clean example with obvious staining around the collar and scattered light blemishes. AVG insignia and wings exhibit a nice patina. A nice example of a desirable uniform jacket. CONDITION: Very good.
