Shipped March of 1873 with 15 guns to H & D Folsom of New York. Factory blued finish with a 7 - 1/2" barrel with 1-line New York address, German silver blade front sight, and v-notch rear. Naval engagement scene rollmarked 6-shot cylinder chambered for the cross-compatible .44 Henry rimfire ammunition utilized in Henry and Winchester 1866 rifles. Frame stamped with 2-line 1871 and 1872 patents on the left side. Blued steel grip straps with plain walnut 1-piece army size grips, each side bears four kill notches near the hammer. Revolver is accompanied by a copy of a 2022 dated factory letter confirming all options, as well as an authentication letter from Charles B. Layson. CONDITION: Very good overall. Metal displays a very pleasing, even brown patina with a few traces of original finish and some evidence of older oxidation spots and original patina. Cylinder scene is mostly legible. Grips are fine with some moderate wear and impressions. Strong frosted bore displays well-defined rifling with some abrasions from use of period black powder. Crisp mechanics. Full or partial matching serial numbers observed on frame, barrel assembly, cylinder, and grip straps. Matching "1028" assembly numbers present on frame and cylinder arbor, the loading gate marked "1128" as an almost certain factory error. A nice, honest example of a scarce and desirable Colt revolver popular in the American West.
