Woodsman manufactured by Colt in 1938. The left side of the barrel is stamped with Colt's 2-line address followed by "THE WOODSMAN", with "COLT", "AUTOMATIC/ CAL. .22 LONG RIFLE" and the Rampant Colt logo on the slide. Metal components are blued, while the frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. Additional features include a 4 - 1/2" barrel, fixed blade front sight, as well as an adjustable square notch rear sight. The magazine has been custom modified with what appears to be a quality period homemade brass follower that features a slide stop at the rear. This example is accompanied by an original factory box that matches via a handwritten number in pencil on the bottom panel and contains a "Shooting Suggestions" pamphlet, manual, as well as an original green hangtag. CONDITION: Excellent, with metal components retaining virtually all of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some very modest wear at the left side of the muzzle and a couple of small indentations along the edge of the crown. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting sharp and well-defined rifling throughout. Grips exhibit some smoothing and a few nicks to the diamonds but are otherwise fine. Box shows some tearing at the lid corners and some minor edge wear, but is otherwise very good. An extremely fine Colt Woodsman that one would find very difficult to upgrade from.
