Nice example of a pre-Civil War US non-regulation British Pattern 1827 officer's sword that features a 32 - 1/4" blade that is decorated for about half its length with wonderfully etched panels that feature patriotic and foliate motifs. Obverse center features a beautiful spread winged eagle and reverse center features the elegant letters "US". A panoply of arms rests above each side of the ricasso. Spine is marked "IRON PROOF" and reverse ricasso features an arrow mark. Large, well-formed Pattern 1827 iron guard with American eagle perched above the letters "US". Backstrap with ears, sharkskin wrapped grip with brass wire accommodated by the grooves. Complete with iron scabbard. The blade remains bright with minor blemishes that do not detract from the unmolested panels. Nice patina to hilt with areas of wear to sharkskin wrap. Scabbard exhibits matching chocolate patina to hilt. CONDITION: Good.
