Lot consists of: (A) Ames M1832-1834 General Officer's Sword in standard configuration with blade featuring etched patriotic and foliate motifs for about half its length. Ricasso is needle inscribed "N.P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield". Folded shell guard with straight quillon embellished with Ames star. Oval pommel adored with foliate motifs and nicely carved bone grip. The blade exhibits a gray patina with muted motifs. Hilt exhibits a pleasing patina with 1 significant chip in the bone grip toward the pommel. CONDITION: Good. (B) Late militia NCO sword which most likely dates to the post-Civil War period. Unadorned blade marked "The / Henderson / Ames Co." on the ricasso. Brass crossguard with knight head pommel and bone grip. Blade exhibits a gray patina, guard and pommel exhibit a mellow patina, and there are 2 chips in the grip toward the pommel. CONDITION: Good.
