A very nice set of framed Esek Hopkins ephemera that was once displayed in the Dr. John K. Lattimer Collection consisting of (A) framed letter written and singed by Hopkins. The letter is regarding a dispute for a settlement and reads "Agreeable to our appointment by the Hon.bl the General Assembly to take into capitalized confederation the capitalized subject matter of the within Petition. Do Report that it appears to us that W. had a Running acct. with W. Southwich or his Deputies, and at the Settlement of which in ye Year 1781 there was a Balance due to said Greene in J.town which W. Mumford drew on and on W. Southwich for-and in our opinion it is not a matter which came before this Assembly but ought to be settled either by W. Southwich..." signed at the bottom by Esek Hopkins. The letter is matted in black with an engraving of Hopkins and is contained under glass in a old black wooden frame that measures approximately 17 - 1/2" x 13". The letter is accompanied by a James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity (B) Circa 1830s-1840s engraving of Esek Hopkins. Contained under glass in a presentable frame that measures approximately 14" x 11". CONDITION: The letter exhibits blemishes typical of old paper including yellowing, light fading, etc. Frame is loose. Engraving is very good with wear to frame.
