Circa 1897. A vintage 12 bore with brown Damascus steel game gun with 30" barrels. Barrels have been built with extractors and 2 - 1/2" chambers. Barrels rib is smooth, concave, slightly tapered, with small steel round front bead sight and dolls head extension. Rib reads "MORTIMER & SON / 86 GEORGE STREET EDINBURGH". Barrel flats with guns serial number "7504" and proofs indicate they were built prior to nitro. Chokes are Modified in left barrel and Cylinder in right. The dark case color hardened underlever action with third fastener has been designated with double triggers and short dog eared hammers. Blued trigger guard extends to a long bottom strap and engraved with scroll and guns serial number "7504". Action and hammers are engraved with fine scroll. "Mortimer and Son" are engraved within a banner on both sides. The dark nicely figured English straight hand grip stock with flat top checkering is missing its oval and finished with a serrated horn plate. Splinter forend also with English flat top checkering, scroll engraved Deeley snap release, and ebony tip. Iron metal has been case hardened and scroll engraved. Gun lives in a vintage green canvas case. Case comes with cleaning tools and interior lid with paper Mortimer & Son trade label. This shotgun is listed by serial number on pages 133-134 of "The Mortimer Gunmakers: 1753-1923" by Munson and photographed as plates 203 and 204. It was made for Alfred Cecil Harrison, Thomas Mortimer's nephew, and the original oval is photographed with his initials present. CONDITION: Good. Barrels retain nearly all of their brown Damascus with some blemishes. Bores are good. Action and triggers are good. Stock is good. Needs replacement oval. Forend is good. Case is good wear to its vintage leather trim.
