Lot consists of: (A) US circa 1840s Federal period sword, most likely for an infantry officer. The sword features an approximately 34" straight blade that is decorated for about half its length with patriotic and foliate motifs, marked "W.H. / Horstmann & Co." on the obverse and "New York" on the reverse blade. William H. Horstmann Jr. and Sigmund H. Horstmann joined the firm in 1843, renamed the business William H. Horstmann & Sons, and opened a branch in New York City, thus dating this sword to the 1840s. Iron hilt with reverse-P knucklebow that features a slot to accommodate a sword knot. Grip is made of leather-wrapped wood with twisted wire. Complete with iron scabbard. The blade exhibits a gray patina with scattered blemishes and evidence of polishing toward the tip. Hilt exhibits a heavy gray patina with blemishes to grip and slightly loose wire. Scabbard exhibits a chocolate patina. CONDITION: Good. (B) Circa 1810-1930s cavalry saber with brass stirrup hilt and leather wrapped and grooved wood grip. Blade exhibits a heavy gray patina with traces of patriotic and foliate etchings including 15 6-pointed stars that adorn the blade for about half its length. No visible maker mark. Hilt exhibits a dark patina. Grip exhibits wear including light cracks to leather. CONDITION: Fair.
