According to the Colt Factory Archive letter, this gun was shipped March 13, 1883 in a shipment of 10 guns. It was shipped to Simmons Hardware Company in St Louis, Missouri. The letter states that it is a .45 caliber, barrel length is not listed, finish is nickel, type of stocks not listed, and factory engraving. At some point in the last 140 years the barrel has been cut back to 5" and the front sight reinstalled on the barrel. The gun has also been professionally refurbished. 1-line barrel address on top of the barrel "COLTS PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." 3-line patent dates on the left front of the receiver. Matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard and the back strap. Loading gate bin number is 6502. Factory scroll and foliate engraving with a punch dot background covers at least 80% of the gun. Fire blue screws have have all been replaced. 1-piece walnut grip is new. It comes with a set of stag grips and an H.H. Heiser leather holster. CONDITION: The gun retains virtually all of the aftermarket nickel finish and the fire blue on the screws. The gun locks up tight and indexes fine. The action is very smooth. There are only 3 clicks on the hammer. Grips are near mint and fit the gun superbly. The bore is a bit dark but has good lands and grooves.
