Originally shipped from the warehouse October 18, 1894. Fit with a blued 22" round barrel in rare .38-70 chambering. Blade front sight and sporting rear. Classic case hardened receiver with plain trigger. 2-piece straight grain walnut stocks with steel nose cap and crescent rifle butt plate. An accompanying copy of a 1980 dated factory letter confirms all options. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel finish has largely drifted to a pleasing plum with areas of blue retained in protected areas. Receiver colors have faded to a characteristic silvery patina. Stocks are very good, showing some scattered impressions and added finish. Bore displays defined rifling with some black powder pitting. Fine mechanics. Less than 1,000 '86s were produced in .38-70, far fewer as short rifles, making this a nice addition to a Winchester collection.
