Shipped December 19, 1887. Correct 26" blued half octagon barrel chambered on .40-65 with 2-line address, half-length button magazine tube, and sporting sights. Cased hardened solid frame with plain trigger. Smooth walnut "fancy" figured walnut forend and buttstock. Stock sports a solid crescent butt plate, and on the left side, a large factory-applied oblong silver plaque engraved with intertwined, stylized "RA" initials pierced with a flowing banner reading "FROM D.P. & E.A.". An included copy of a 1981 dated factory letter confirms options, including the presentation plaque, although the inscription is not mentioned and was likely done by a jeweler in the period. CONDITION: Very fine. Significant portions of fading factory-applied blue are retained on the barrel. Portions of muted case colors are displayed on the receiver with areas of cleaned oxidation. Stocks are fine with some scattered marks and finish loss. Presentation displays a mellow patina, with the area around the inscription cleaned. Fine bore showing sharp rifling. Mechanically fine. A great Winchester 1886 with desirable special order features.
