Per an included copy of a 1997 dated factory letter, this carbine chambered in .40-82 shipped June 1, 1895. Standard 22" round barrel with 2-line address, ".40-82 / WCF" designation, full-length magazine tube, rounded blade front sight, and carbine rear sight graduated to 2000 yards. Solid receiver with saddle ring and "MODEL 1886" tang marking. 2-piece plain American walnut stocks with steel carbine butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Metal exhibits a pleasing dove gray patina with a freckled surface. Forend is very good with scattered marks and some moderate wear. Butt stock is excellent with minimal handling marks, possibly a correct, very well-fit replacement. Strong bore showing defined rifling with some abrasions from period black powder use. Mechanically fine.
