Originally shipped February 22, 1896. 1 of less than 1000 1886s produced in .38-70 chambering, this example fit with a blued 26" octagon barrel with full-length magazine tube and 2-line rollmarked address. Dovetail blade front sight and tang mounted aperture rear sight, the rear barrel dovetail filled in with a blank. Case-hardened solid frame with plain trigger. Correct finely checkered walnut forend. Finely checkered figured XX walnut pistol grip stock with ebony grip insert and solid steel crescent butt plate. Lower tang stamped with "504 XX" assembly number and wood grade, a matching "504" present on the inside of the butt plate. Inside of stock appears to match with "50" partially legible. A copy of a 1988 dated factory letter confirms options, sights not listed. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel retains significant portions of factory blue fading to plum patina. Receiver displays a bright silver patina with significant traces of case color patterning. Stocks are very good, showing moderate wear, minor marks, and a coat of added finish. A repaired split present along the wrist. Abraded bore shows defined rifling. Fine mechanics.
