Late production with faint "US" and flaming bomb markings on receiver indicating martial ownership. These single-shot .22 Short rifles based on the 1885 single-shot action were developed as improved training rifles for the US Army, with many used during WWI. This example is blued with a 28" round barrel with 2-line address, blade front sight, and Lyman aperture rear. Standard grooved full-length walnut forend with blued nose cap, single barrel band, and plain walnut stock with musket butt plate. CONDITION: Excellent as restored, retaining nearly all of its reapplied blue finish. Traces of case color present on breech block with hammer showing evidence of use. Stocks have a few minor marks with clean surfaces. Very fine bore displays sharp rifling. Mechanically fine.
