Model 1895 lever action musket manufactured by Winchester in 1898. The left side of the receiver bears Winchester's manufacturer information, with "NATIONAL GUARD OF COLORADO" stamped on the right. Receiver bears no caliber designation stamp, instead stamped with "2 D 44" over the chamber. "KSM" inspector stamp is present on the left side of the lever and top of the buttplate. Metal components are blued, with the forend, handguard, and buttstock comprised of solid wood. Rifle is accompanied by a Winchester-manufactured blade bayonet complete with an original scabbard and brown leather frog. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning overall, with some concentrated areas of wear and thinning that show through to brown and gray patinas. Bright bore, exhibiting mild oxidation and retaining strong, well-defined rifling throughout. Wood furniture exhibits scattered marks and minor impressions from storage and handling but is otherwise fine. Bayonet and scabbard are in-the-white and exhibit some age-related discoloration but are otherwise fine. Used extensively by Colorado's National Guard during the Miner Strikes shortly after the turn of the century, most examples of these rifles are found well used, making this a very nice example of a seldom encountered National Guard of Colorado marked Winchester Model 1895 lever action musket.
