Full-stock Kentucky rifle made by George Feder circa 1810 in the Southeast area of Pennsylvania. Feder is a gunsmith who changed styles, moved quite a lot, and was rumored to have been trained in John Bonewitz's shop. The consignor stated that this rifle was in The Eagle Museum in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. Gun has 53 - 1/2" octagon to round .54 caliber rifled barrel with silver blade front sight, notch rear sight, and barrel stamped "G. FEDER". Illegibly marked percussion lock with single trigger control. Full length curly maple stock with brass hardware, including an engraved Bonewitz style "SCHMOO" finial 4-piece patchbox. Comes with a hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Metal has turned a plum patina with areas of light pitting. The hardware has been cleaned and polished and has aged to a golden patina. Lock has a flint plate with period percussion conversion. Wood was cleaned with an added coat of wax, small areas of burnout around the lock, and a hole indicating a possible mainspring break. Small slivers missing along forestock with old forestock crack. Dark pitted bore with visible rifling with good mechanics. Nice honest rifle.
