A great circa 1860s California shipped example bearing "N. CURRY & BRo / SAN FRANCo CALA / AGENTS" marking on the top flat. Similar in size to the infamous pistol used by John Wilkes Booth to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln in 1865, with a browned 2 - 3/4" .41 caliber barrel. Barrel bears standard "DERINGER / PHILADELA" and sunburst "P" markings over the chamber between a pair of German silver bands. Dovetail German silver blade front sight with "U" notch rear. Standard foliate engraved back action percussion lock marked "DERINGER / PHILADELA". Stocked in checkered American walnut with a bird's head contour grip and sparsely engraved German silver mounts. CONDITION: Very good overall. Barrel has been cleaned to a gray patina with traces of original browning. Lock case hardening has faded to gray. Stocks show some light wear and impressions. Mounts remain bright. A nice Western agent marked desirable Lincoln-size Deringer.
