A very nice example of a Confederate foot officer's sword. The sword features an unusually broad 30 - 1/4" straight blade with single fuller and no etchings. No visible marks that can be attributed to a maker. The blade features a pleasant gray patina with scattered edge wear and freckling. Ghosting of letters "CSA" toward reverse center. Sand cast guard with great flaws and file marks with an open scroll work guard. The hilt is sturdy and features a pleasing patina. Grip is of wood, which was grooved and wrapped with leather. A single strand of brass wire is accommodated in the grooves. Heavy pommel cap. The sword is complete with its top stitched leather scabbard that features brass mounts that are interestingly screwed in place. The scabbard exhibits surface wear with scuffs and scratches. There is 1 notable bend between the middle mount and the drag. The scabbard is complete with all original pieces in place. This sword was once sold by Arizona Swords and a copy of the receipt from this transaction is included. The description from Arizona Swords states that the sword did not have wire wrap on the grip when it was originally sold, therefore the wire was added at some point. Most notably, the sword is photographed on page 248 of Shannon Pritchard's "Collecting the Confederacy". CONDITION: Good.
