No maker's marks but probably English. Classic blunderbuss with an iron barrel in 3 stages, octagonal to round, with a ring approximately 1 - 5/8" back from muzzle and a 1/4" band at flared muzzle. Light engraving visible at transition from octagonal to round, and heavily softened legends offset breech that appear to be private view proofs. Spring loaded bayonet with locking attachment point at muzzle. Ramrod, probably the original, with covered jag on reverse, is retained by a single ferrule and feeds into a reinforced mouth Flat lock with light floral engraving, unbridled pan cover, and swan neck cock; pan refaced. Sideplate one 1 piece of brass with rocker engraving about the edges. Brass trigger guard with long strap engraved en suite with acorn finial. Brass buttplate with long finial at heel engraved en suite. CONDITION: Barrel and lock have been covered with a layer of lacquer that has obfuscated legends, with some scattered areas of mild pitting visible. Stock is very good with marks from handling and storage throughout, with some bubbling to finish on left side of comb. Mechanically fine, bore is very good.
