Converted in the early 1870s from a Colt 1860 Army outside of the factory, originally manufactured in 1871. Shortened 5 - 1/4" barrel chambered for .44 Centerfire with blade front sight and hammer notch rear sight. Ejector rod housing is of modern blacksmith manufactured replacement. 1 piece plain walnut grips are numbered to the gun on inside channel underneath backstrap. Matching serial numbers were observed on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt, and loading gate; several serial numbers appear to have been reapplied during conversion. Wedge is a replacement and has been renumbered to match. CONDITION: Good, with finish mostly turned a blue-gray patina with freckling and handling marks throughout. Brass trigger guard has been heavily polished with scattered oxidation. Except for the grips, the gun has been covered in a protective layer of varnish. Grips are modern replacements and are shy to grip frame but show no major signs of distress. Cylinder is out of time. Bore is frosted with modest abrasion and well-defined rifling.
