Full length 42" .69 caliber barrel proofed at the beech with "V", "P", and eagle head. Tang dated 1845. Percussion lock marked with central eagle motif over "US" with vertical "SPRING / FIELD / 1844" tail marking. Stock is full-length smooth walnut with standard simplified Charleville-style iron mounts. CONDITION: Good. Barrel and lock display a dark patina with a heavy layer of protective coating, mounts cleaned bright at some point. Stock has an age-darkened appearance with impressions throughout. Fine mechanics.
