Made at Springfield Arsenal under royalty agreement with Remington between 1870 and 1871 with 22,013 made. Military blued finish 30" round barrel with missing dovetail front sight, rear sight, and 2 iron barrel bands. Gun most likely shortened from 32 - 5/8" and bayonet lug removed for use in Franco-Prussian War. Case hardened single shot frame with "(Eagle) / U.S.N. / SPRINGFIELD / 1870". Standard military walnut stocks with U.S. marked steel buttplate. Comes with steel ramrod. CONDITION: 10% fading blue with heavy wear and discoloration from heavy operation. Dark brown overall with pitting and heavy usage marks. Stocks have heavy usage marks and a dark oil soaked appearance. Dark pitted bore with functional mechanics.
