Slightly curved double-fullered English style blade small oval shaped guard stamped with "MH" hallmark on the reverse. The silver S-shaped guard terminates at both ends with an eagle. In the center there is a lion on one side and a dragon on the other. Green ivory grip decorated with a silver band. The maker MH could possibly stand for blade forger Michael Humble of Louisville, Kentucky. He is listed on 12th Street in 1779 as a "plater, gunsmith and swordsmith" according to page 690 of Volume II of "American Silver-Hilted, Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords" by Daniel D. Hartzler. CONDITION: Blade polished bright, some nicks to cutting edge and one area of loss along cutting edge due to heavy removed pitting. Hilt retains a pleasing patina. Blasé tight to hilt. Silver wrap on grip slightly loose. Grip excellent.
