Charles Jones is recorded in Birmingham and London circa 1832 to 1845. This is a top quality English pepperbox with Birmingham proofs in each gullet and barrels numbered 1 - 6, strong traces of case colors at protected edges. Detachable German silver recoil shield. Round bodied German silver action engraved on left side with "CHARLES JONES / 26 St JAMES'S STREET / LONDON with scroll and shaded edges, right side with "IMPROVED / SELF - ACTING / REVOLVING PISTOL", with engraving en suite. Hammer with rays engraved about the striker, light floral engraving at the cock, and running scroll along the spine. German silver straps with wrigglework borders and running scroll with a vacant space for "206" serial number. Nicely figured walnut grips with single screw feeding through escutcheon. Iron trigger guard with running scroll and wriggle work. Housed in a partitioned walnut case with brass tabs and escutcheon, lined with blue felt and containing a combination powder flask, bullet holder, and patch holder, turnkey, nipple wrench, loading rod, Eley cap tin with caps, bullet mold, and key. CONDITION: Iron components are largely dove grey with some spotted brown patina, and strong traces of case colors at the edges and protected areas. German silver frame has some superficial scratches, crisp engraving. Grips are very good with some handling marks. Mechanically fine, bores are very good. Case is very good, relined, case with impressions from storage. Accessories very good as assembled, with some handling marks, including a ding to flask and crack to turn key.
