With the need for combat shotguns in the Vietnam conflict clear, High Standard began developing their own trench style shotgun for the Air Force. It is believed only 25 to 50 were produced based on their K-1200 slide action riot gun, with trial shotguns sent to the Army and Navy, in addition to the USAF. As with other known High Standard trench guns, this example is stamped on the left side of the receiver with a "21A" experimental serial number. The blued 20" barrel is marked with 1968 "DL" date code at the rear. "RIOT 20-6 MODEL K-1200 HIGH STANDARD / HAMDEN, CONN., U.S.A." stamped under the 4-row perforated heat shield. Standard corrugated walnut slide. Buttstock is moderately figured smooth oil-finished walnut with rear sling swivel, a red rubber recoil pad, and overstamped "8A" marking on the left side. Shotgun is accompanied by a MILPAR M5A1 bayonet with B.M. & Co. M8 scabbard, as well as a commercial brown leather sling. CONDITION: Very good. The vast majority of the original factory-applied blued finish is retained throughout, with some mild evidence of use, including scratching on the receiver and other light silvering. Stocks show some scattered impressions, with nearly all of their original finishes retained. Butt pad shows some compression and deterioration. Smooth, very fine mechanics. Good bright bore. Bayonet is excellent with some light finish thinning. A very rare, seldom seen Vietnam era trench gun.
CORRECTION: Receiver is stamped with serial number "10A" not "21A" as described.
