For an identical example, see plate 31.S on page 72 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. This is the exact pattern used by Sir William Pepperrell's 51st Regiment of Foot. There are 2 known hilts of this pattern marked to his regiment. The tapered double-edged diamond-section blade is straight. The gilt brass hilt features a relief Hanoverian horse on the dished outboard guard. Pommel has a relief crown with engraved details on both sides. Grip wrapped tightly with braided silver wire. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with scattered areas of pitting and some losses to cutting edges. Hilt retains a pleasing mustard patina with traces of gilt in protected areas. Blade is tight to hilt; grip is excellent. A very nice example.
