Manufactured circa 1943 in Springfield, Massachusetts, by Northampton Cutlery licensed from Randall Knives. The demand was such for Randall Made Knives that they had to do this to meet production. Approximately 1200 "Springfield Randalls" were produced by the end of World War II. 8" clip point blade marked "RANDALL MADE / SPFLD MASS." surrounded by 2 scimitars on left side and etched with a name on right side. Due to age and cleaning, the name on right side of blade is partially illegible but appears to read "Thomas E. Jep Kiggen". Brass double hilt with stacked leather washer handle and duralumin pommel. Accompanied by unmarked brown leather Model A style scabbard complete with sharpening stone. CONDITION: Very good, with scattered light freckling on blade, maker mark sharp, original grinding marks visible near spine, and evidence of cleaning throughout. Possibly sharpened at some point. Brass hilt is an attractive mellow patina. Grip shows no major signs of distress and minor handling wear. Sheath shows light age cracking and handling wear. Stitching is tight and leather is pliable. Sharpening stone button rivet has come loose.
