Manufactured 1854-1859 with only a total of 2,970 made according to factory records. Features include 26" heavy contour octagonal barrel in .40 caliber with standard front and rear sights, and desirable slant breech mechanism. 2-piece walnut stock and forearm with pewter nosecap, brass buttplate, and brass patchbox. Complete with printed article from the Sharps Collector Association website on the Sharps Model 1853 Slant Breech Sporting Rifles and their features. CONDITION: Very good, with virtually all of the original finishes turned a blue-brown patina with freckling throughout and light handling marks. Stock and forearm are very good as lightly cleaned with several cracks on right side of wrist near frame tang. Mechanically fine. Bore is frosted with sharp rifling.
