Designed using surplus Model 1867 pistol actions to make a rifle for cadets in military academies. 28" barrel chambered in .50-45 Government with standard sights. Standard stock and forearm with leather period sling and military buttplate. Complete with correct US marked angular socket bayonet in metal scabbard. Marked "P / F.C.W." on right side of action near bottom. Left of stock is marked "WILSON / 16", likely an ownership marking or rack number to the cadet who would've used this rifle. CONDITION: Very good, with barrel turned a freckled brown patina and action sides retaining most of their thinning bright original blue with areas of freckling and wear at edges. Stock and forearm have handling marks throughout and repaired cracks at right side of forearm near frame and left side of wrist. Mechanically fine. Bore is frosted with light abrasion throughout and well-defined rifling. Bayonet and scabbard are overall a speckled brown patina with areas of bluing visible on blade and marking crisp.
