Per "The Government Models" by Goddard, this pistol shipped to Browning Bros on December 17th, 1900. Sights are a blade front sight with a small drop of red paint added for visibility, while rear sight is a white outline square notch rear sight that pivots in classic sight safety style. Rear of slide with plunge milled serrations, left side with " "BROWNING'S PATENT" / PAT'D APRIL 20. 1897 // COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. / HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A." with encircled Rampant Colt at rear; right side with "AUTOMATIC COLT / CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS". Frame with serial number on left side, just above trigger guard. Replacement smooth walnut grips with German silver escutcheon for screws. Heel magazine release with nickel-plated magazine. PROVENANCE: Richard "Dick" Burdick collection. CONDITION: Slide retains most of the factory bluing with superficial scratches throughout and high-edge silvering, particularly to muzzle, and left side of slide. Frame somewhat better with same superficial handling marks, some silvering to sharp edges, and some mossing, particularly to dust cover and grip strap. Rear strap is essentially dove grey with more bluing retained closer to knuckle. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with frosting throughout, particularly towards muzzle. An early 1900 with a scarce shipping destination.
