According to the Colt Factory Archive letter, this gun left the factory as a .41 caliber with a 5" barrel and was nickel plated, factory engraved, and fit with pearl grips with carved Mexican Eagle motif. It was shipped to Waxell & DeGress, Mexico City, Mexico, on September 23, 1885, in a shipment of 6 guns. The grips are pearls with a carved Mexican eagle motif, but they are not the original grips for this gun. The cylinder and ejector housing have gold wash on them, which is not mentioned in the letter. This gun has a floral pattern engraving with a punch dot background. It also has other geometric designs engraved on it. Etched panel on the left of the barrel with a 2-line address on top of the barrel. Patent dates on the left of the frame. PROVENANCE: Richard "Dick" Burdick collection. CONDITION: This gun retains some of the original factory nickel finish along with some of the original nitre blue on the hammer, trigger, and screws. There is some gold wash on the cylinder and ejector housing. The bore is dark, showing some pitting in the lands and grooves. The grips show wear. Action works in both double and single action.
