After Denmark was occupied by German forces, a significant number of Danish troops were exiled to Sweden and, beginning in 1943, 7,500 were armed and trained by Sweden as "police" forming the Danish Brigade. In 1944, the exiled Danes ordered 2000 M40 pistols, most of which fall into the 67000 – 69202 serial number range, this example numbered "67696". Unlike other Danish police purchases, these pistols do not have D prefix serial numbers and are marked with a standard Swedish Army crown over "SS'" inspector mark. After the War these pistols were moved into police service prior to export; this example marked on the right with a large "Rplt. S 5481" police property mark and on the left with a small CDI import mark. Pistol is otherwise standard with blued finish throughout. 4 - 3/4" barrel chambered in 9mm Parabellum, blade front sight, u-notch rear, and 2-piece checkered plastic grips. Pistol is accompanied by a rare original board-style detachable stock, leather flap holster, and 3 total magazines. CONDITION: Very good overall. Pistol retains the vast majority of its factory blue with some minor areas of thinning and light abrasion. Grips are very good. Strong, bright bore with some mild frosting in the grooves. Mechanically fine. Stock shows some scattered impressions but is otherwise very good. Holster is serviceable with some surface scuffing and verdigris. A very interesting historic pistol with desirable accessories.
