Lot consists of: (A) Cylindrical wooden canteen with interlocking wooden sidestraps and painted dark red. Sidestraps are retained with iron rivets and brass nails. Face of canteen is painted with a well and flowers on reverse. An old tag is attached to the canteen and reads "This is an English whiskey cant it was used as a canteen by an American Soldier during the Revolutionary war. It was passed down to me by Uncle Tracy B." Most likely painted during the Victorian era when this act of decoration was popular. The canteen exhibits areas of paint loss and cracks in the wood but remains sturdy. CONDITION: Good. (B) Cylindrical wooden canteen with iron straps and traces of old red paint. Front side exhibits the letters "IS" which are encountered on similar Revolutionary War canteens. 1 iron strap is marked "CONN. 1369" which is possible a find location and inventory number. The canteen exhibits areas of paint loss and bug holes but remains sturdy. Excellent patina. CONDITION: Good. (C) Small barrel canteen, painted gray, with old paper label that reads "Water keg 1776 Loaned by P.H. Talbot". There are letters carved on either side of the canteen which were painted over. Areas of paint loss, scratches, and scuffs. CONDITION: Good. (D) Small barrel canteen with an old paper label that reads "Flask. / Ebeneze Sargent. / 1785 / James Sargent - J.W. Sargent". Nicely grooved with old finish. CONDITION: Good.
