Circa 1958, date of engraving unknown. Blue and casehardened finish, engraved in approximately D class coverage of Helfricht style scroll with accenting geometrics and checkerboard patterns, including unusual stippling on cylinder and starburst on front sight, signed "Eng P.L. QUIGLEY" on nose of frame. Grips with sunken areas of checkering on both scales. Kidney shaped ejector rod housing, .45 Colt caliber designation on right side of barrel, Colt address on top of barrel, and 2 line Colt patent information on frame. Accompanied by a letter from noted engraved Ben Lane Jr, indicating that he sold the gun with a .45 ACP Cylinder (not included) to a Leonard Richardson; no mention of engraving. PROVENANCE: From the advanced collection of the esteemed and respected Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Overall excellent with nearly all professionally reapplied finishes remaining with some superficial scratches and handling marks throughout. Engraving is crisp and well cut as befits Phil's work. Grips somewhat rougher with some abraded heads and heavier handling marks. Mechanically fine with all 4 Colt clicks, bore has strong rifling and mild frosting throughout.
