Produced from stamped and welded steel by the Guide Lamp division of General Motors over a brief 11 week period in 1942. Well over 300,000 of the compact single shot .45 ACP pistols were airdropped during World War II, largely to arm partisans in Nazi-occupied Europe and cause chaos. These pistols feature a smoothbore 4" barrel where rounds could be individually loaded into the chamber and ejected with a piece of dowel. Spare ammunition could be stored in a compartment in the grip. PROVENANCE: From the advanced collection of the esteemed and respected Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Very good overall with some expected toning and a few minor spots of cleaned oxidation. Good mechanics. These clandestine pistols were built only for brief use, with the majority destroyed after WWII, making them a desirable relic of the resistance.
