According to the John Kopec letter, the frame serial number, 10116, is from a 1874 Ainsworth inspected U.S. cavalry revolver. Refurbished in 1903 with a new barrel, cylinder, and grips, then refinished as new. In the 1920s these guns were sold as surplus through places like Bannerman's. Single line barrel address "COLT'T PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". Roll marked caliber, "COLT .45". 2 line patent dates and a U.S. on left side of the frame. R.A.C on the bottom of the grip. Right side of grip has 1903 with a cartouche underneath. PROVENANCE: From the advanced collection of the esteemed and respected Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Gun retains most of the factory applied blue finish. Hints of case color in the protected areas. Grip shows some handling marks. Good bore with well-defined lands and grooves.
