Originally manufactured as a standard configuration P.08 Luger by Mauser in 1941, this example was converted to fire .45 ACP by Ken Wyatt, a well-known reloader and competition pistol shooter during the 1950s and 60s. The receiver is stamped "41" over the chamber, with Mauser arsenal proofs on the right side and "byf" stamped on the toggle. The left side of the frame is stamped "P.08", with "WYATT .45/ PAT. PEND." on the left side of the barrel at the breach. Interior of the rear frame well is stamped "48". Modifications made for the conversion include the removal of material at the bottom of the breechblock face to accommodate the .45 ACP cartridge, the removal of some material on the interior of the upper receiver towards the breech, removal of the rear sight, a notch cut into the hold-open latch, the installation of a permanent non-removable magazine that is retained via 2 pins at the base of the grip, the masterful removal of the magazine release button, stippling of the trigger, removal of the frame's rear sling loop, modification of the right grip panel to create a cartridge counter window, and the installation of a heavy barrel that features a BO-MAR micrometer adjustable rear sight and Patridge front sight. Metal components are blued, while the ejector is polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered black plastic grips. All numbers on original Mauser production components match. Pistol is accompanied by custom unmarked detachable flat board buttstock. PROVENANCE: From the advanced collection of the esteemed and respected Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Extremely fine, with metal components retaining nearly all of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting a few spots of minor wear from wear and a few mild superficial marks from handling and storage. Mirror bore exhibits some mild firing residue and strong rifling throughout. Grips exhibit scattered nicks from handling and storage but are otherwise fine. An extremely attractive Ken Wyatt .45 ACP conversion Luger.
