According to the Colt Factory archive letter, Single Action Army serial number 97187 shipped as a .45 Colt with a 4 - 3/4" barrel, blue finish, stocks not listed. It was shipped to E.C. Meacham Arms Co. in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 17, 1886, in a shipment of 40 guns. It has 2 piece hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt logo and the American Eagle on each grip. 2 line barrel address, "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." on top of the barrel. 3 line patent mark on the left side of the frame. Matching serial numbers on frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. Last four of serial number on the side of the cylinder. Assembly number (2968) on the bottom of the frame and on the loading gate. It comes with a modern belt and Bridgeport rig. PROVENANCE: From the advanced collection of the esteemed and respected Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: This gun has turned to an even gray-brown patina. Grips show some wear and age. Dark bore with well-defined lands and grooves. Action works fine and has all 4 clicks. Belt and Bridgeport rig are as new. The extra Bridgeport rig is an original.
