Percussion plains style halfstock rifle made in the fashion of a Hawken rifle circa 1850. Gun has 31" rifled .47 caliber heavy octagon barrel with heavy blade front sight of gunsmith fashion, missing rear dovetail sight, and silver plate stamped "J. GRIDER". Grider can not be found anywhere by this cataloger and might be the owner instead of the maker. Rifle has George Golcher marked back action percussion lock with double set triggers. Unusual marbled stock with German silver furniture and several animal inlays. Rifle appears to have spent a lot of time under rough use and poor storage. CONDITION: Poor, with pitted bore and non-functioning mechanics. Looks like a rifle that was found outside after years of exposure. Wish it could talk.
