Manufactured 1913; the USMC shipment left Colt on July 9th, 1913. Half moon front sight, U notch round top rear sight. Left side of slide with 2 line 2 block patent and address information in serif font, last patent date is February 14th, 1911, rampant Colt at rear; right side of slide with "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY", "H" at top of firing pin retaining plate. Barrel with "P H" stamped at hood, oriented to read with muzzle pointing right, small "T" proof on left lug. Top of frame with "H" and "R" near disconnector hole. Frame with US property mark on left side of dust cover and intertwined WGP near magazine release for Penfield; right side of frame with serial number. Small parts comprise spurred checkered hammer, thin tab safety with milled relief cut, checkered slide release with milled relief cut, checkered magazine release, long smooth milled trigger, short A1 grip safety, smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Truncated diamond walnut grips. Scarce keyhole magazine with lanyard loop. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Good, considering how heavily used these guns were used, retaining approximately 10-15% of bluing, mostly in protected areas, with balance a smooth dove grey with chocolate patina and areas of minor oxidation. Small parts very good and possibly period armorer replaced as the wear is not commensurate. Grips are very good with some smoothing and abraded heads but free of cracks or chips. Mechanically fine, bore is good with strong rifling, somewhat softened with mild frosting. A good example of a scarce gun.
