Manufactured 1936 per the serial number, when Colt was producing some of their finest semi-automatics. Typical high ramp National Match front sight, Stevens adjustable rear sight, which has been "topped" to adjust the point of impact, with bare metal across the top. Left side of slide with 2-line 1-block patent and address information, right with National Match rollmark. Barrel with "COLT 45 AUTO MATCH" on lower left side of chamber, encircled MB on left lug. Lugs have been shot and fit adjusted extensively. Frame has Colt VP proof and "X" subinspector on left side of trigger guard, "36" on right. Right side of frame with "GOVERNMENT MODEL" and serial number. Small parts comprise spurred checkered hammer, checkered slide release, thick tab safety, short checkered trigger, checkered magazine release, long A1 grip safety, arched knurled mainspring housing. Grips are fully checkered walnut scales. 2 tone magazine. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Slide has been professionally refinished with crisp legends, very slightly infilled, with pluming and a light reddish hue. Some handling marks and silvering to high edges. Frame is original Colt factory bluing with appropriate distension about proofs from application of stamp. Some silvering to high edges, losses to reciprocating and high traffic areas; grip straps with traces of blue, largely gunmetal grey mixed with some old cold blue. Mechanically fine, bore is excellent with strong rifling and some mild age-related frosting.
