Extremely rare, with Semmer reporting in his book "Remington Double Shotguns" that only 17 of these top-grade side-by-sides were ever built by Remington Arms Company from 1894 to 1910; this example built in 1898. 30" blued Ordnance fluid steel barrels in 12 gauge with matted rib, twin bead sights, and ejectors. 2 - 3/4" chambers. Finely engraved case hardened boxlock receiver with full coverage of shaded scroll, with vignettes of a quail scene on with "REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY" in a banner on right side, left side features vignette with duck and woodcock scene with Remington banner, while bottom of receiver features vignette engraving with a scene of dogs on the chase. Action has double triggers and automatic safety. Fancy checkered walnut stock in English grip configuration with checkered side panels with raised carved points at rear. Matching checkered splinter forearm with push button release. Stock has an added modern Pachmayer vented rubber recoil pad. CONDITION: 20% barrel blue, with balance turning a silvery patina. Action has turned to a silvery gray color with easily visible sharp engraving. Traces of original varnish with usage dings; checkering almost non-existent in handling areas. Stock has been cut to add pad. Good bores with soft mechanics. Gun locks up tight with opening lever still slightly to the right; screws are in time. An extremely rare gun that has been used hard, but still has life and needs to be restored to its former glory!
