Lot consists of: (A) "A Treatise on the Three Medicinal Mineral Waters at Llandrindod, in Radnorshire, South Wales...", London 1756, copy owned and from the library of Dr. John Jones, Columbia University's first professor of surgery. Jones was also a professor of surgery at King's College, the foremost surgeon in the American Colonies, father of American surgery, and the author of the first American medical text. The text is held together by leather covers, both of which exhibit wear but remains secure. Jones' signature is on the front blank and the inside cover exhibits his bookplate. Some pages exhibit soiling but all text is legible and the book appears complete. CONDITION: Good. (B) Autograph document signed in the third person, 1 page, oblong 8vo, dated 31 July 1782. A statement to Mr. Markoe for medical services. Edge wear with scattered staining and legible writing. CONDITION: Good. Former Dr. John K. Lattimer Collection.
